As IPL is known for its exciting auctions, the IPL 2022 auction also saw some excellent signings. During this year’s auctions, 204 players were auctioned for a total of INR 551.7 crores, and ten teams were left with formidable squads. Among those who got good bargains was Suresh Raina, who scored 5528 runs in 205 matches for the Chennai Super Kings. Sadly, he missed the 2020 season because of personal reasons.
Chahal’s stock has been rising since he was picked up for a low price by the Sunrisers Hyderabad and Chennai Super Kings, respectively. The former went unsold in the 2020 auctions, but was picked by the latter as a replacement for Mitchell Marsh. In his two seasons with the Sunrisers, Holder has taken 30 wickets at an average of 16.4 and scored 151 runs. His wickets have mostly come in the UAE, where the pitch has more bounce and spin.
Other players with huge value for their teams include Avesh Khan of India, who was bought for Rs. 10 crore by Lucknow Super Giants. The wicket-keeper could be the most expensive player at IPL 2022 auctions, fetching as much as INR 16 Cr. Similarly, Shahrukh Khan, the batting specialist of Tamil Nadu, was bought by the Punjab Kings for Rs. 9 crore.
Apart from being a top player in the 2022 IPL, Yash Dhull is another exciting prospect to watch out for. A talented left-handed batsman who captained India to Under-19 World Cup glory earlier this year, Bishnoi has already shown his mettle. He needs to score more than 600 runs to stamp his authority on the league. Otherwise, he could win the MVP award.
Whether Iyer will be a captain in the IPL 2022 is unclear. It is possible that Iyer’s performance will determine the success of his team. His debut season saw him become the Emerging Player of the tournament. The Mumbai boy has been a standout in domestic cricket and has clocked up eight centuries in T20Is. If he makes the cut, he’s a sure bet to be the Most Valuable Player for the IPL.
If the Mumbai Indians fail to land the first pick, then the batting line-up needs to be strengthened. Kishan has played most of his cricket as an opener, but has also played in the middle order and has a powerful CV. He is also likely to be a top contender for the Orange Cap in IPL 2022. It is hard to predict what type of impact he will make in the IPL, but he certainly has a chance to shine.
In the IPL 2021 season, Ruturaj Padikkal was trusted to play the opening role. His six-wicket knock against Rajasthan Royals sparked a RCB chase. He also hit 11 fours and a six. RCB beat the RR by 10 wickets, and Padikkal’s century was the fastest by an uncapped player in IPL.
