IPL 2022: Kuldeep Powers DC To Beat KKR In The 41st Match!

In the league this year, Kuldeep Yadav has become a threat to the opponent, whoever it is. Against KKR, he again displayed his talents yesterday with a spell of three overs, ensuring four precious wickets at merely 14 runs. KKR was conscious of the severe consequences they might have while facing Yadav; they were planning strategies for dealing with his nasty swings and short-pitched deliveries. They were practicing with their pacers, but Kuldeep, along with the team, got the match completely one-sided, and KKR stood no chance – as it seems.

After winning the toss, Pant, the Delhi skipper, opted for bowling first. However, KKR could not have a solid start from the first ball, and the connection was not happening. After the first over, the score was merely two. Nobody knows why V. Iyer was shouldering his arms against half volleys. It was like Ravi Shastri, batting in the 80s.

The second over found Aaron Finch dismissed by Sakaria; he was dropped just on the previous ball. He made no use of the life granted to him and behaved like a tailender to throw away his wicket. After that, S. Iyer came into the middle. The first boundary of barren KKR innings went out of the center of his bat, and it was the penultimate ball of the third over. The next over found V. Iyer, back on the loop – mistiming the length deliveries, feebly pushing it for singles. If a batter faces early dismissal in limited-over matches, Bhogle said that’s okay, but wasting the balls becomes problematic. V. Iyer’s Dravidian temperament, however, found a premature end against Axel Patel’s delivery. He was about to sweep but, through the inside blade of his bat, found the safe hands of Sakaria at the fine leg boundary.

Eighth over found Kuldeep for the first time; on the same second delivery, he got his man, Indrajith. Indrajith tossed the ball but got a bad connection on the toe of the bat, and he was caught in the deep. The following delivery found Yadav’s venom disseminated in the stadium, a slight inswinger, pitching on the middle stump plumbed Narine, he reviewed, but the original decision was reiterated. Shreyas was looking good, and it was him dragging the cart ahead. On the twelfth over, he again hammered two boundaries. It was followed by a maximum from Rana on the next over.

Pant probably wanted to get the partnership collapsed, and for that, he brought Yadav on the attack. Yadav knows where to pitch the ball even to dismiss a settled batsman, and he did the same – again, a couple of wickets in his bag. He also cleared Iyer; the ray of hope was extinguished in the KKR dressing room.

The next over by Lalit Yadav also brought a few singles. Rana, however, was trying to do something worthy; he struck two boundaries on the sixteenth over, followed by another six on the next. The eighteenth over got back to back two boundaries – and the nineteenth over got KKR 16 runs. The final over yielded nothing.

While chasing, the confident DC found themselves after ten overs in 83 for the loss of three wickets, and the next few overs also cleared two more wickets. After the trouble, Patel and Southee were taking up the charge – they dragged DC in 113 for six after the end of the 14th over. DC middle-order made the difference, consistently keeping the run rate around 7-8. They ended the match at the last ball of the penultimate over.

When you think of matches like these, it reminds you that it’s all about skill and perseverance, something that you would need if you were playing cricket fantasy as well.
