In this ranking, we’ll only be covering banks that offer retail banking, which is the type of banking that most people are most familiar with. There are some really great commercial and institutional banks in Texas as well, such as this one here, but we won’t be discussing those types of banks in this list.
With that out of the way, let’s go over our top five banks in Texas for 2023.
1. Wells Fargo Bank
With the most branch locations compared to any other bank in all of Texas, Wells Fargo has to take the number one spot on our list this year. With 529 locations, you are all but guaranteed to be within very close distance to a Wells Fargo branch, making the management of your finances much easier.
Additionally, Wells Fargo was featured on Money.com’s best banks throughout the entire country for its large ATM network and low minimum balance required.
2. Chase
Sitting just shy of 500 branch locations, Chase is our number two ranked bank. It has the second most branch locations throughout the state, which makes finding one near you pretty easy. We also picked Chase for their good customer service and overall reputation and credibility.
3. Frost Bank
The first Texan bank on our list, Frost Bank is known throughout Texas. Headquartered in San Antonio, Texas, this bank may be a good choice for you. They are ranked first in customer service, according to this Forbes article, and 174 locations across the state.
The Frost Bank Tower in Austin is one of the city’s architectural icons, as the top features a unique folded glass pane design that creates a segmented pyramidal shape. It is truly a sight to behold.
4. Woodforest National Bank
Woodforest National Bank is another Texan bank, headquartered in The Woodlands, Texas. The Woodlands exist within the extra-territorial jurisdiction of Houston, and are considered to be a special-purpose district and census-designated place.
Woodforest National Bank is Walmart’s largest retail partner, and has even opened bank branches in a few Walmarts, such as this one here. There are 211 Woodforest National Bank branches in Texas, and they are ranked just ahead of Wells Fargo when it comes to customer service.
5. Ally Bank
Ally Bank may be the best option for you if you are looking for an all around great bank with generous features, such as ATM fee refunds. Ally Bank has no physical locations, so if you are in need of customer support they have 24/7 support. Additionally, you will be able to use ATMs across the country, so no worries there.
